The Outsiders

 

Objective:  Students will work with decoding skills while orally reading.  They will complete study guide and vocabulary activities.  They will also complete a name activity.

 

Material:  a copy of the book The Outsiders for each student, study guide for each student, “What’s in a Name” handout

 

 

Lesson:  Students and teacher will orally read chapters 1 & 2 of the book.  Students will complete study guide as the story is read and discuss the elements of theme, character, and plot.  Students will complete “What’s In a Name” activity.  They will take it home and ask their parents questions on why they were named as they were

 

Evaluation:  Completed study guides and discussion.   Students will also complete one journal entry.  Completed “What’s in a Name” activity.
