The
Outsiders
This unit will be used with a seventh grade Title One reading class.
The unit has 10 lessons, but will take more than ten days. A lesson may last two days depending on the time required by
my students to complete the tasks they need to cover.
I
work with a block schedule so we break up our hour and a half block into
different activities. This unit
contains 10 lessons and four learning centers.
The learning centers allow for group interaction and the groups are given
class time to work on these. This
is a favorite part of the unit for students.
We may do part of a lesson and the rest of the time work on learning
centers, what ever fits the needs of my students that day.
Some days are dedicated to total learning center time.
Each
day that the students read from the book they will work on a study guide.
This study guide includes questions about the story to help with
comprehension. This study guide
also includes vocabulary that the students will be tested on.
Another
part of the unit includes journal writing.
The teacher has chosen journal topics that the students will work on to
help increase their writing skills.
The
students will also have a writing project to work on.
This will start later into the unit and again, they will be given time to
work on this in class as another element of the unit.
