The Outsiders

**This is an uncompleted project.   More will be added to it at a later date.**

This will assess what the students gained from the project.

Objective:  Through this writing project students will be assessed on their knowledge of setting, plot, characterization, theme, point of view, and tone.

Materials:  Various handouts (found on the Internet), peer assessments, final product produced in Microsoft Word.

Lesson:  This is an ongoing assessment.  The project will be introduced after the students have read a few chapters (probably 4) and have had time to discuss the various literary elements. 

Students will first plan a setting.  They will have a handout on which they can develop the setting.  They will share their setting with a buddy.

Next, with the help of a “story beginning” students will develop a plot for their story.

Next the students will develop a main character for their story and complete a character web (Inspiration or Kidspiration).

Students will start with a subject that they are familiar with.  Through handouts from Scholastic, Inc.  the students will develop their plan for a story.

Their final product will be at least two type written pages.  It will be assessed on content and development of a setting, characters, plot, and theme or conflict.
